UPLIFT Community Development
“Two are better than one because they have a good return for their labor. For if either of them falls, the one will lift up his companion. But woe to the one who falls when there is not another to lift him up.” -- Ecclesiastes 4:9 The target population served by the programs of UPLIFT is within South Arlington and other low income communities in Tarrant County. A community assessment conducted by the United Way of Tarrant County indicated that Arlington is a fast growing city with a higher than average median, household income.
Despite the prosperity of some, however, 10% of Arlington residents (35,000 people) live in poverty. The rate was even higher among children, with 15% living in poverty. Of those who face particular difficulty are single parents. Approximately 28% of households with a single, female head were living below the poverty level.
Although there are a number of churches and service providers in the area, gaps in needed services still exist. UPLIFT seeks to fill the gaps by offering comprehensive services and strategies designed to impact lives from the inside out.
